Style, Materials and Savoir Faire

The concept of the paper wedding gown is a modern interpretation—both artistic and romantic—of the traditional wedding dress. The multiple layers of paper-like material capture soft light with dreamlike effect. With the bride floating amid these gossamer materials, she too takes on the magic of Mireille Etienne Brunel's creation.

The idea: two dresses. One is underneath—the "secret," carefully sculpted to the bride's body—and the other is on top—a misty, diaphanous cloud that falls delicately to the bride's feet, giving her the grace of a Botticelli.

The "secret" is opaque white material, both sturdy and light, while the outer dress is crafted from transparent filter paper. Despite their apparent delicacy, these materials are exceptionally durable; they are water-proof and fire-resistant.

For those who prefer more traditional materials, Mireille Etienne Brunel also fashions silk designs with the same light-diffusing qualities.

The method: The materials are sculpted to the bride's body and carefully adjusted over several fittings. Every dress is unique.

In addition to the veil, the dresses often include decorative elements including feathers, flowers, sequins, and translucent collars.
